Sony's next major firmware update will be 2.90 then 3.00 so what will be in these firmware updates?
From the way Sony as been acting of late it looks like backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 2 could be coming in one of these firmware's, i have read on other sites about the PS3 being able to play PS2 games already but due to quality its not enabled so maybe this was what the last update was to do with to help improve this for a future release? Sony have already said there was something in the last update we all really want but its not enabled as of yet for us the consumers only the developers.
Also there's rumours of some kind of rep function similar to that of the xbox360 rep function. is this something we want? i think its something that adds to the whole experience of the psn and will make a lot of people happy.

Something i would like to see in the future be it 2.90,3.00 or beyond, is some kind of global leaderboard or at least friends list leaderboard for trophies, i really do think people would love this as it will be a way of seeing just how good you really are or not so good or even just to see if you rank higher then your friends (basically bragging rights) i know a lot of people who do want this and at least 30-40 people on my friends list and the people who have made threads about this on the EU PlayStation forums.
Cross game chat is another feature people seem to be crying out for but do we really need/want this? my opinion no, why would i want to talk to someone playing a different game to me? i have lived without it until now so why would i use it, just because the xbox360 as this feature doesn't mean we need to have this, i can understand why the people who have a xbox360 as well want this but why do the rest of us? even some of the xbox360 owners have said its not something they really use a lot. So it seems to me some PlayStation 3 owners only want this because the xbox360 as it, a lot of PlayStation 3 owners have never used it due to not owning a xbox360 so why do you want/need it?
The only other bits i would like other then a trophy leaderboard and a rep system would be a better or updated web browser and a video store/zone for Europe.
What ever happens in these future updates know that it will make the PlayStation 3 an even better system. Also expect 2.90 and maybe even 3.00 by the end of 2009 if the rumours are to be believed.
